A little bit of Daisy CHAIN beginnings...

In the summer of 2012, after many conversations around the kitchen table, our founders began researching the services and community resources available to Lane County families and found a gap in postpartum services that their professional training could fill. They used a combination of their professional, educational, and personal lived experiences to develop the programs and Daisy C.H.A.I.N. services.

Daisy C.H.A.I.N. has been built by community and for community since our humble beginnings.

Daisy C.H.A.I.N. honors tribal sovereignty and recognizes respectfully we live and work in  colonized land, the traditional indigenous homeland of the Kalapuya people.

Our vision.

Daisy C.H.A.I.N. (DC) is considered a leader in the community for doula, lactation, pregnancy, birthing, and parenting resources and has been serving clients since Fall 2012. DC's mission is to provide the community with research and evidence-based support services and education for individuals and families in their reproductive years. We envision a network where every individual is supported and empowered through their personal reproductive and parenting journeys. DC values continuous improvement and community feedback to create responsive programs that meet the population's needs.
DC programs are FREE to ALL families and are delivered by highly skilled, professionally-trained staff/volunteers in families’ homes and in community locations, reflecting DC's core value for increasing equitable access to high quality care that normalizes accessing support, prevents and reduces isolation, and creates a safety net for individuals who are otherwise at-risk of falling through service gaps. Programs are designed to consider social determinants of health in the overall model of delivery as well as in the individualized care provided to each client. Doulas, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), peers, and educators meet clients where they are, literally and figuratively, embodying DC's value for nonjudgmental, trauma-informed program delivery. DC values partnerships and has established satellite spots for services to increase program locations and accessibility while creating a network of support for clients and reducing overhead costs. DC has earned the Lane County Excellence Award in Public Health from Maternal Child Health and the International Care Award for Excellence in Community Lactation Programs. DC's new partnership with First Place Family Center, serving those experiencing homelessness, began in last 2018 and earned the 2018 Care Award, making DC one of 35 in the world to receive this honor, one of 25 in the US, and the only one in Oregon.

DC’s focus is to center the reproductive and parenting experiences of marginalized communities in creating responsive programs, increasing equity in workforce development in this field, and structuring the organization’s internal capacity in a way that reflects these values in all areas while allowing for a sustainable foundation for future generations. This shifts the current paradigm and model of care to envision a network where every individual is supported and empowered through the complexities of their personal reproductive and parenting experiences by a team of ally professionals and peers who value each client as the leader of their own journey. Programs are administered at no cost to clients and available in homes and various community locations.
Increasing equitable access to high quality, person-centered, cultural- and trauma-informed services that improve reproductive and parenting experiences and immediate and lifelong health outcomes; reducing stress and the incidence of chronic health conditions (including perinatal mood disorders, SIDS, obesity, diabetes, asthma, dental caries) through increased support systems and rates of nursing and human milk consumption*; and continuous improvement of responsive programs through community/client input and internal reflection processes. DC became a 501(c)(3) in September 2013 after a year of serving the community.

*DC chooses to prioritize inclusive language such as lactation, feeding, nursing, and human milk consumption over the term breastfeeding to incorporate diverse infant feeding experiences. This includes, but is not limited to, the nursing experiences of individuals who do not identify as female and/or with the word breast, as well as those who pump their milk and/or use donor milk in a bottle.
